Hey all,
This past week I had the opportunity to chat with a true legend of EM, Dr. Jeff Kline. Dr. Kline is the man responsible for a tremendous amount of research on venous thromboembolic disease, in particular, pulmonary embolism. For most of us, we use his research (eg. the PERC rule) on a daily basis on our clinical shifts. He will be giving one of the plenary lectures at CAEP 2018 in Calgary, and I was lucky enough to chat with him about this. Here is the 2nd episode of the CAEP 2018 Vlog.
Jeff’s plenary lecture will be about empathic communication and reducing over testing in the ED. Given the ever increasing number of tests that we order and the decreased hit rate for serious diagnoses, this is something we all need to emphasize in our daily practice. As Jeff puts it, “we should not use checking a box (doing another test) as a surrogate for patient care”
For those of you with a short attention span, here’s the 60 second version.
If interested, this could be put into an audio only format.
Do you have questions or comments for Dr. Kline? You can find him @Klinelab on Twitter.
What do you want to see on the CAEP 2018 Vlog? Let me know in the comments, on Twitter, YouTube or our new Facebook page.
We have two more confirmed plenary speakers for CAEP 2018, Dr. Brian Goldman from CBC’s “White Coat, Black Art”, as well as Richard Bartrem, VP of Marketing and Communications at Westjet. Look for interviews with them in the coming weeks/months.
Cheers,
Chris
